The more I think about it, the “Destiny” explanation is just as valid as any other theory, despite it coming from the novels. None of the other theories are canon either, and the “Destiny” origin (it’s really more than a theory, it’s an actual explanation) actual ties to come canon characters (won’t elaborate for those who aren’t read the series, but @Michael Benucci posted a link that gets into it in depth). “Destiny is actually a fantastic trilogy that would’ve been amazing if ever adapted to the screen. High recommend if you haven’t read it, and it more than earns my “head canon” origin for the Borg.

Meh. I feel that on is too much of a stretch. I do remember reading a book that indicated the probe was damaged by Borg cubes, leading to the events in the movie

Yeah possibly. I also think I read that somewhere, that it travelled to earth to talk to the whales, because its programming was damaged by the borg, or something like that.

I like the idea of just not knowing, like it's just another of many bizarre eventualities that exist in the universe.

Did anyone hear about the Romulan Borg Origin theory? I just watched a video about it and it is really interesting ( very complex though).
