In universe, m'benga's kenyan, but speaks with an american accent in TOS and an african accent in SNW. He's played by olusanmokun, a nigerian american. So, what accent does m'benga have in SNW, kenyan, or nigerian?

In SNW, m'benga was chief medical officer, but in TOS, he was just a regular doctor and mccoy was chief medical officer, so was m'benga demoted after SNW?
This post contains SPOILERS to the most recently aired Star Trek episode!
While I enjoyed this episode. it is probably my least favorite SNW to date. It is a little silly for my taste. To be fair, all Star Trek series have had some silly episodes, in my opinion, especially early on. So, I am not saying I feel the quality is slipping, just that this particular episode was not my fav. That said, I found the ending, how the situation with Dr. Joseph M'Benga and Rukiya is handled, to be very moving & extremely well done.
I also really like that the book M'Benga is reading to his daughter is written by none other than "Benny Russell"! And, to me, there are some similarities in this episode, as to how the ship is transformed, to "Masks" (TNG 7x17), another silly episode that has some elememts that I like.

Both versions of character seem to be great. I have no favorites, but what do people think of character having Nigerian accent in one show and American accent in another?
Not sure I noticed any major accent changes between both versions of Uhura? But she hasn’t had much scene time yet, we’ll see more later.
