I finally had some time & space to myself, so I indulged in a good ol' fashioned "Star Trek" marathon. Over the last two days I screened:
"Demons" & "Terra Prime" (ENT 4x20 & 4x21)--great, great stuff, personal favorites. I really appreciate how Hoshi stands up to Minister Samuels on the Enterprise bridge. And never underestimate Jonathan Archer!
"The Conscience of the King" (TOS 1x12)--riveting story and I am particularly fond of the classical dramatic elements;
"The Menagerie" (TOS 1x15 & 16)--'nuff said--have always loved this one, too;
"The Immunity Syndrome" (TOS 2x19)--"Shut up, Spock, we're rescuing you!"
--"Why, thank you, CAPTAIN McCoy!"
"Redemption" (TNG 4x26 & 5x1)--always fantastic, mesmerizing, brings so much to the table--still gets high marks!
"Darmok" (TNG 5x2)--one of the greatest episodes of all Trekdom, in my opinion. At the end, Jean-Luc is reading Homer, in Greek, that's terrific!
"The Storyteller" (DS9 1x14)--not the best of the bunch, but I always get a kick out of it.
"Death Wish" (VOY 2x18)--I consider both of these episodes among the strongest of VOY S2, some of the strongest of the entire run...but I have a great appreciation for many. many VOY episodes. "Deathwish" stands out for what are, likely, obvious reasons. Kate Mulgrew also counts this as one of her favorites...her joy working with John deLancie and her relief that the suits were finally letting her really inhabit the character.
"Lifesigns" (VOY 2x19)--strong & nuanced performances by Bob Picardo & Susan Diol, the '57 Chevy on Mars is classic, it gives more depth to Vidiians, and leaves open Danara Pel's return in "Resolutions" (2x25), a top personal favorite.
And I like the continuing build up of Michael Jonas as a Kazon spy & Tom Paris as a malcontent—we don’t yet know that it is a ruse to catch the would be saboteur!
I really, really enjoyed this run of epsiodes.
