DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T FINISHED STAR TREK DISCOVERY!
What did people think about the show and in particular the last episode?
I'll start with saying, that I haven't really enjoyed Discovery for various reasons that aren't worth getting into now.
When it was announced that Discovery would be cancelled, I'll quietly say that I was kind of pleased, hoping that it would free up space for a different show. Saying all of that, after finishing the final season, I was genuinely upset and disappointed that it has come to and end. Maybe Discovery needed the customary Star Trek, 2 seasons (40 ish episodes in old shows) for it to find it's feet.
I have to say that I have thoroughly enjoyed this season. I have enjoyed the race aspects of the episodes and that it felt less intense than precious series (we must succeed or the whole of the Universe will be destroyed!).
It was good to see more evolution of the characters, particular Lt Rhys and Rayner.
It was interesting to learn more about the Breen, and I'd like to know more going forwards (although, I did also like the secrecy of them from the past - no one has ever seen a Breen). Can they change their shape or appearance?
It was pleasing to see that Burnham has learned from previous seasons and has grown and that she has a happy ending.
It is rare that I am genuinely surprised when I watch shows, but I was a gasped with the revelation that the machine wasn't made by the Progenitors but in fact by possibly even more ancient races, even several. Blew my mind and was Fantastic!
Another pleasing and shocked moment was finding out the news of Kovich being Daniels! For me, that was a nice little surprise that I watched with my mouth wide open.
Well done to all involved. Season 5 will definitely make me go back and watch these all again and hopefully I get a new appreciation for the show.
