Biographie[]
En 1950, il commença sa carrière d'artiste peintre et pour son premier film il travailla sur The Day the Earth Stood Still - Le jour où la Terre s'arrêta avec Robert Wise réalisateur de "Star Trek: The Motion Picture".
Avant de travailler sur Star Trek il participa à Forbidden Planet - Planète interdite, Ben Hur, North by Northwest, Logan's Run et Close Encounters of the Third Kind - Rencontre du 3ème type. Il gagna un Academy Award pour Logan's Run fut nomminé aux oscar pour Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
Pour Star Trek, il travailla pour Future General Corporation sous la supervision de Douglas Trumbull. (The Making of Star Trek: The Motion Picture, p. 211)
