The Cardassian rank system was based on at least three known officer ranks: legate, gul, and glinn.

In addition to their rank, the nature of their duties also defined their military hierarchy, in as far as an officer holding the title of "prefect", or one who served as the commanding officer of an Order.

Legate Edit

Legate Parn in 2370

Legate was a rank given to members of the Central Command and high-ranking flag officers in the Cardassian military. This rank was comparable to an admiral.

Gul Edit

Gul Macet in 2367

Gul was a military rank held by the commander of a vessel or installation. This rank was comparable to that of captain.

Glinn Edit

Glinn Boheeka in 2370

Glinn was a military rank below gul. This rank was comparable to an Ensign.

This chart shows only general equivalencies based on the ranks used by many governments on Earth, as well as the rest of the galaxy.

Appendices Edit

Background information Edit

The Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Technical Manual lists another Cardassian rank below glinn, that of "gil," presumably a low officer grade or noncom rank. Cardassian space stations such as Terok Nor were typically equipped with enough lifeboats for officers down to, and including, the rank of gil.

Apocrypha Edit

The Star Trek: Terok Nor novel Day of the Vipers introduces the ranks of dalin and dal (in between glinn and gul), and jagul (between gul and legate) and also refers to the rank of gil.
