According to his biographical profile seen in "In a Mirror, Darkly, Part II", Jonathan Archer's tenure as commander of Enterprise NX-01 ends. On screen evidence of this seems to indicate otherwise however. However, the "on-screen evidence" seen was from the finale, which was actually just a simulation on the holodeck. It's possible that the holoprogram was in error or simply intended as a holonovel with a loose historical basis.
