- The Federation starship USS Horizon visits Sigma Iota II, a planet that was home to a pre-warp society. One of the ship's crew members accidentally leaves behind a book, Chicago Mobs of the Twenties. The Horizon is destroyed shortly after leaving the planet, and transmitts a radio frequency distress call that will not be received by Starfleet until almost 100 years later.
