Chronologically, this is the earliest known appearance of the "red jacket" Starfleet uniforms originally introduced in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
In "Encounter at Farpoint", Data claimed to have graduated in the "class of '78", which seemingly would refer to this year. However, later revelations about Data's history consistently contradict the possibility that Data even existed in this era.
