- Hikaru Sulu begins a three-year mission charting gaseous anomalies in the Beta Quadrant. (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country)
This may be his second three-year-mission, as, per a plaque in PIC: "The Star Gazer", Sulu was given command of the Excelsior in 2287, following the mission to Sha-ka-ree.
Other events[]
- The Klingon battle cruiser IKS T'Ong is sent by the Klingon High Command on a high priority mission. For this mission, the crew is placed into cryogenic sleep. (TNG: "The Emissary")
- Three Klingon battle cruisers, commanded by Kor, Koloth, and Kang, are dispatched to apprehend the Albino. The raid is successful in breaking up most of the Albino's power base, but they fail to capture the Albino himself. In revenge, the Albino infects each of the three captain's firstborn sons with a genetic virus that will slowly kill the children. (DS9: "Blood Oath")

According to the Star Trek: Picard Logs, the USS Titan, a Shangri-La class (β) starship with registry NCC-1777, is launched. The ship's first commander is Captain Saavik. [1]
