40 Eridani B, sometimes shortened to Eridani B, was a white dwarf in the Vulcan system. Located in the Beta Quadrant, this star was approximately 16 light years from Sol.

It was one of three stars in this trinary system and was one of two stars in a binary star system. Its companion was the red dwarf 40 Eridani C. These two stars orbited the K-type dwarf Keid (otherwise known as 40 Eridani A).

There were no planets in 40 Eridani B's system.

History[]

In 2259, Lieutenant Sam Kirk speculated that an anomalous vortex on the Kerkhovian moon was related to elevated sunspot activity on Eridani B. The star was also depicted in a diagram of the Vulcan system displayed on the shuttle Cervantes. (SNW: "Charades")

This star was identified in a display graphic created by Timothy Peel for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. [1]
There was further information on this star from the Star Trek: Star Charts, (pp. 18, 19, 36, 45, 58, and 60) and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("Stellar Cartography" pp. 14-15, 17, 22-24, 34, 36, and 46; "The Dominion War: Strategy and Battles, 2373-75"). 40 Eridani B had an absolute magnitude of 11.2. This star was 400 astronomical units from 40 Eridani A and 44 AUs from 40 Eridani C.
The current location of 40 Eridani B in the Beta Quadrant was based on the most recent star charts seen in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Section 31.
