765874 - Unification Spock and Kirk

Kirk reunites with Spock

765874: Unification is a continuation of the 765874 series of short films from the Roddenberry Archive and OTOY.

The ten-minute short starts off with the quote from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan by Captain James T. Kirk to Saavik about "How we deal with death is at least as important as how we deal with life", over ominous sounds. The scene then transitions into a figure floating in front of the fusion of a sun. The initially blurred image is to later revealed to be that of Gary Mitchell. Mitchell proceeds to close his eyes, and the image fades to a figure on a Veridian III mountaintop overlooking the simple stone cairn.

The next scene is that of a city landscape that progresses into J.M. Colt receiving a mind meld that flashes into a large stone mountain pillar with smaller stone pillars protruding and a pool of water shaped as an eye. Colt, accompanied by four other individuals, proceeds towards the "eye". Now at the eye, she begins to look down in thought when the primary hull of the USS Enterprise that crashed on Veridian III appears to be in the process of recovery from the planet. Then Colt pokes at the water where it again flashes back to her receiving a mind meld from Spock. At the Daystrom Station, Colt, holding some form of PADD, walks past a series of panels with one showing the X-ray scan of Kirk. She beings to look over the panels.

A scenic garden with trees in different colors near a shore transitions to a statue holding a flame into blades of grass as the camera focuses on someone walking in boots. They run their hands across the plants of the garden, then grasps drops of water from a flower. A statue of a water fountain, a individual in 2270s Starfleet uniform jumper vest walks, and the scene transitions to a statue. A group of individuals all dressed in brightly-colored outfits stand, overlooked by the same statue.

The blurry camera begins to focus into Kirk looking around the garden until his focus is drawn upon this group of brightly-dressed people as well as another individual wearing a form of 2370s dress uniform. He begins to hesitantly walk towards them as the group begins to break formation. He looks across the group until he stops with amazement at a slight, smiling Vulcan from his past: an aged Saavik. Saavik looks behind her as if she wants to introduce Kirk to someone. A slightly younger Vulcan, her son Sorak, wears burgundy formal attire. Appearing emotional with a slight smile and almost crying, Saavik nods to Kirk. The focus then goes back to Saavik as she looks away as to point Kirk to his next task. He appears that this is just a moment he is not ready to leave. Saavik slightly nods as a reinforcement of the task. Kirk begins to walk away as the crowd watches on.

The focus then begins from the water fountain to the group, and an individual wearing a 2370s Starfleet uniform. A Betelgeusian alternate reality time soldier, Yor, stares Kirk down as he walks towards him with the dress uniform individual in tow. Yor holds out both hands as an offer towards Kirk. Kirk grabs with one hand, but Yor holds firm as to indicate a disrespect in accepting with only one hand. Kirk then accepts a combadge with both hands. Kirk looks down and is transported to a hallway covered in water and light leading towards the end. Kirk stands confused as what to do, then looks down to see a reflection of his 2260s self in the water. This reflection then becomes the point of view for Kirk as he looks around the hall. He turns back around to see himself as an admiral in the distance looking back at his younger self. They trade glances back and forth when 2370s Kirk walks up behind them. The younger versions then fade out and vanish. Kirk again looks at the combadge and proceeds to put it on his uniform. He then smiles and walks towards the light until he disappears.

Kirk then enters a room filled with Vulcan furnishings overlooking a sunset. His demeanor changes as if to anticipate what is to come. He slowly advances towards a bed. On a stone desk is a cup of water, a picture frame, a headdress, and a Vulcan emblem. Kirk sits on the side of the bed and grabs the hand of its occupant as to comfort the person. They then hold hands as if they are saying "We are in this fight together". The camera then begins to focus and reveals the bed's occupant to be an elderly Spock as he is waking from sleep. Kirk and Spock exchange looks, then Kirk puts his hands overtop to provide additional comfort with Spock doing the same. Kirk smiles, and Spock lifts an eyebrow in response. Kirk smiles a little more as if Spock just showed emotion. Spock then turns towards the sunset, with Kirk following shortly after and smiling. The two friends loosen their grasp of each other and watch the sun fade, followed by the screen "765874: Unification".
