The Air Defense Command (ADC) was a command of the United States Air Force in the mid-20th century.
In that year, the Strategic Air Command was alarmed when an Unidentified flying object (the USS Enterprise after entering an accidental time warp) was detected in the atmosphere, and ordered the ADC to scramble an F-104 Starfighter and intercept. (TOS: "Tomorrow is Yesterday")
In reality, the name of this organization was changed to Aerospace Defense Command in 1968, which was prior to the setting of the episode but after it was filmed.
