Alberta was a Canadian province on Earth.
Alberta was home to Calgary, one of Canada's major cities. Wesley Crusher and Joshua Albert once went there to go skiing. (TNG: "The First Duty")
In 2010, the small town of Vulcan, Alberta was named Official Star Trek Capital of Canada. The town, named after the Roman god, has built itself as a Star Trek tourist attraction. Leonard Nimoy joined an unsuccessful attempt to get the premiere of the 2009 Star Trek film in Vulcan. A film and TV memorabilia museum operated in the town for several years and was home to props, costumes and even a small piece of a set from Voyager; it later relocated to another Alberta community, Drumheller.
Strictly speaking, one does not go to Calgary for substantial skiing but to communities like Banff and Lake Louise, a one-two-hour drive from the city. It is possible that by the time of the TNG era, Calgary will expand to incorporate those regions.
