Background information[]
According to an internal reference document, listing all the aliens seen in Star Trek: The Next Generation, which was circulated around the time of the production of TNG Season 5, the Algolians were given the description of "a humanoid race, distinguished physically by golden leathery skin, with a forehead close to Klingons." According to the call sheet form "Qpid", this species was identified as a "Red Alien".
The Algolians' head prosthetic appears to be inspired by the Promellians, only later to be modified to create the head pieces for the Rotciv and Yint's species.
According to StarTrek.com, the Algolian homeworld orbited the star Algol (Beta Persei), a B-class star. [1](X) [2](X)
According to Star Trek: Star Charts ("United Federation of Planets III") and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("Federation Historical Highlights, 2161-2385"), there was a star system named Algol (Beta Persei), which might be the home system of this species, in the Alpha Quadrant.
