For the similarly-named Maquis member, please see Amaros.

Crewman Amaro was a security officer stationed on board Deep Space 9 in 2373. He and Stolzoff had been classmates at Starfleet Academy.

Amaro and several others volunteered for a salvage operation on board Empok Nor. Unfortunately, the station held two members of the Cardassian Third Battalion First Order who had been given psychotropic drugs to enhance their natural xenophobia. Though armed with phaser rifles, the Cardassian soldiers killed Stolzoff, Pechetti, and Boq'ta before they themselves were killed.

Amaro was saved and then killed by Elim Garak, whose mind had been affected by contact with the drugs. After returning to normal, Garak asked Miles O'Brien to express his regrets to Amaro's wife. (DS9: "Empok Nor")

Amaro was played by actor Jeffrey King.

According to the script for this episode, the pronunciation for Amaro was "uh-MAR-oh". [1] He wore no rank insignia, and was described simply as a "crewman" in the script.

For the scene where Amaro's body is hung from the Promenade, King and the other actors were placed in flying suits similar to parachute harnesses and suspended about a foot above the set. (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion, p. 462)
