At some point during her life, Amin enlisted in Starfleet and by 2254 was assigned to the USS Enterprise as a lieutenant in the operations division. (ST: "Q&A")
By 2257, She had transferred to the command division and was appointed the navigator on the Enterprise. (DIS: "Such Sweet Sorrow")
