Ammunition was a materiel that was shot, dropped, or detonated from a weapon or weapon system. This included any expendable weapon such as a bomb, missile, shell, grenade, mine, or other explosive device, as well as a component part of a weapon such as a firearm cartridge, bullet, arrow, or warhead. Munition was a broad term that sometimes referred to ammunition, but also any weapon which used ammunition, and any piece of military equipment in general.
In 2375, Julian Bashir described an 1836 event where Davy Crockett was out of ammunition while the Mexican Army was swarming the battlements of the Alamo, and Bashir was convinced that Crockett would have surrendered. (DS9: "Once More Unto the Breach")
