The Andorian system, also known as the Procyon system or the Alpha Canis Minoris system or 10 Canis Minoris system, was an inhabited planetary system in the Beta Quadrant.

Components[]

Stellar system[]

This was a binary star system. The primary Procyon (the proper name for Alpha Canis Minoris A) was a F-type subgiant. Its' companion was the white dwarf Alpha Canis Minoris B.

Planetary system[]

There were several planets and moons in this system. The most prominent of these was the inhabited moon Andoria, which orbited a gas giant, and was the home of the Andorians and Aenar. There were at least four other planets, including Procyon V. The system contained several moons other than Andoria, which were collectively known as the moons of Andoria. History[]

The Andorian system was the capital system of the Andorian Empire to 2161 when it became a member of the Federation. Centuries later, in the 32nd century, this system was a member of the Emerald Chain before it splintered into rival factions.

In 2154, the Battle of Andoria took place on the outskirts of the Andorian system. (ENT: "Kir'Shara")

In 2257, during the first Federation-Klingon War, this system was near the front line. (DIS: "The War Without, The War Within")

In a possible future, the historic Battle of Procyon V was fought in this system in the 26th century, between the United Federation of Planets and the Sphere-Builders, wherein the forces of the Federation were successful in driving the Builders back into their transdimensional realm. At least part of the system had been subsumed by a vast trans-dimensional disturbance at the time of the battle. (ENT: "Azati Prime")

Stellar cartography[]

The Andorian system was visible from Earth in the constellation Canis Minor. This system was approximately 11 light years from Sol.

Found within Andorian space in the Andorian sector, the Andorian system was a close neighbor of the Vulcan system, (ENT: "Kir'Shara")

In the 2150s, this system's position was labeled on an United Earth star chart which was displayed in several crew and guest quarters aboard the Enterprise. (Star Trek: Enterprise, set decoration)

In 2256, this system's location was labeled on the star chart "Alpha/Beta Quadrant Overview" in the ready room aboard the USS Discovery. (DIS: "Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad")

The system's location was labeled in a Federation star chart that was in Fleet Admiral Kirsten Clancy's office at Starfleet Headquarters in 2399 and on the bridge of the USS Titan-A in 2401. Procyon was in or near to Federation space. (PIC: "Maps and Legends", "The Next Generation", "Disengage")

In 2401, the system's position was labeled on a star chart used by Captain William T. Riker during his attempt at finding the last known location of the SS Eleos XII. (PIC: "The Next Generation")

In 3189, the location of Andoria was denoted on a holographic star chart of the galaxy at Federation Headquarters. Andoria was located in the territory of the Emerald Chain. (DIS: "Die Trying", "Scavengers")

Background information[]

A picture of a star chart supposedly used for Star Trek: Discovery was tweeted by Ted Sullivan on 28 November 2017. According to this map, the star Andoria was also known as Procyon, or Alpha Canis Minoris. [1]

Confirmation of Andoria being in the Procyon system, or Andorian system, was made in the star chart created for the Star Trek: Enterprise episode "Cold Front". It was the preliminary draft for the star chart which would later be seen in the Star Trek: Star Charts. This star chart seen in Crewman Daniels used this label, "ANDORIA (Procyon)", connecting these two locations together.

Further information on this system could be had from the Star Trek: Star Charts (pp. 19, 36, & 62) and the Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("Federation Historical Highlights, 2161-2385"). The stars of this system were a F-class star and A-class star. In the 22nd century, the system was a stop on the Earth trade routes. The system was located in Sector 006 (Andorian Sector).

The star chart seen in the series Star Trek: Enterprise made its first appearance in Crewman Daniels quarters in "Cold Front". It was also seen in several other episodes of the series, from 2151 to 2154. (For more information, see Federation star charts#United Earth Alpha/Beta star chart)

The current location of Andorian system in the Beta Quadrant was based on the most recent star charts seen in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Section 31.

Apocrypha[]

In the game Star Trek Online, Procyon was depicted as a system directly adjacent to the Andorian system, and Procyon V was said to be one of the first exoplanets visited by Andorian space explorers.
