"Dude's a stone-cold badass."
– Samanthan Rutherford, 2380 ("Crisis Point")

Lieutenant Commander Andarithio "Andy" Billups was a male Human Starfleet officer who lived during the mid-24th century.

History[]

Early life[]

Billups was born a prince on Hysperia, a planet colonized by a number of Ren faire types. His mother, Queen Paolana, was the leader of the Hysperians, and as such, Billups grew up in a castle, ate mutton, and had a pet dragon named Fiddlesticks. (LD: "Where Pleasant Fountains Lie", "Twovix")

When Billups joined Starfleet, he abdicated his birthright. Nevertheless, his mother continued to try to trick him into having sex, as according to Hysperian law, when he lost his virginity, he would automatically become king, and resign from Starfleet in order to take the throne. Later, when justifying his decision to join Starfleet, Billups explained that "a life of mythical adventure [couldn't] compare to working on the old impulse engine." (LD: "Where Pleasant Fountains Lie")

Starfleet career[]

In 2380, he served as chief engineering officer under Captain Carol Freeman on the USS Cerritos.

Billups headed up the phase of getting the subspace comm array set up during the second contact mission with the Galardonians, so that they could communicate with the rest of the Federation. After the ship departed for its next destination, he was on the bridge speaking with Lieutenant Shaxs. (LD: "Second Contact")

He was working in main engineering when the entire ship was inundated by Beckett Mariner's musical performance. He was later in the ship's bar repelling Gelrakian invaders, when he hit one back to Shaxs, using a volleyball pass, before Shaxs spiked the invader into pile of more invaders. (LD: "Temporal Edict")

He was on the bridge during the Cerritos' confrontation with the Drookmani ship over the salvage of the freighter NCC-502. During a tractor beam tug-of-war over the salvage, he warned that if they were to fire on the Drookmani that that would be an act of war. He later helped restore the ship's systems from engineering, then attended the party to celebrate Fletcher's promotion to lieutenant. (LD: "Terminal Provocations")

He took part in a covert operation to steal a 23rd century Romulan Bird-of-Prey from a Vulcan museum, which was later used to rescue Clar from Romulan captivity. Rutherford ended up saving Billups when his environmental suit ran low on oxygen, and he began to suffer nitrogen intoxication. (LD: "Veritas")

He later participated in the training drills presented by Shari yn Yem in 2381. (LD: "I, Excretus")

Personality[]

Billups mainly kept to himself on duty, and was fairly shy, and quiet. His skills in engineering impressed people like Ensign Sam Rutherford, who saw him as the greatest engineer in Starfleet. (LD: "Crisis Point")

Due to the combination of wanting to remain an engineer in Starfleet and the Hysperian laws of royal succession, Billups lived a life of celibacy. (LD: "Where Pleasant Fountains Lie")

Personal relationships[]

According to Ensign Barnes, Billups had difficulties talking to women. (LD: "Second Contact")

Ensign Beckett Mariner, in particular, gave him a hard time quite often. On one occasion, she dismissed him in frustration when he tried to give her a hand pie when it was revealed that Mariner was Captain Carol Freeman's daughter. Mariner also noted that previously he had confused her with Jennifer Sh'reyan. (LD: "No Small Parts")

Paolana[]

Billups had a shaky relationship with his mother, as she would often scheme to trick him into having sex, in an effort to have him resign from Starfleet and become king. She saw his career as an engineer as a waste of time, and went so far as to fake her own death in an effort to have him become king. Her antics never paid off, and Billups was happy to remain in Starfleet, even if it meant a lifetime of virginity. (LD: "Where Pleasant Fountains Lie")

Background information[]

Billups was voiced by Paul Scheer.

Scheer has said that he considers Billups to be a virgin. (Star Trek: The Pod Directive (citation needededit))

"Andarithio" is not a known long form of "Andy," and appears to be a pseudo-medieval form of "Andrew."
