Peter Andrewes "Andy" Schmidt (born 3 August 1976; age 48) is the Senior Editor of comics at IDW Publishing. He looks after various franchises licensed by the company including G.I. Joe, Star Trek, and Transformers. He joined IDW from Marvel Comics, where he worked for almost six years. During that time, he edited various books including X-Men, X-Factor, Alias, Captain America, Iron Man / Captain America, and the Annihilation Saga. He also wrote for a few titles for the company.
In addition to all of his editing work, he is a lecturer and consultant on the comics industry with his teaching company, Comics Experience.
His first contribution to IDW's Star Trek line was editing the first issue of Star Trek: The Last Generation, "Do Not Close Your Eyes". Major contributions to the line were the launches of Star Trek: Countdown, Alien Spotlight, Volume II (specifically the "Tribbles" issue), and Star Trek: Mission's End.
With the start of 2009, he moved on to other lines at IDW, handing the reins back to Scott Dunbier. He did return to the line to pen the comic adaptation of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and closed out 2009 (along with his brother, Arne Schmidt) by writing the final issue of the second Alien Spotlight volume, "Alien Spotlight: Cardassians".
