Angel, also known as Al Nair or Alpha Gruis, was an inhabited planetary system in the Beta Quadrant. This system was near the Federation-Romulan border. (TNG: "Angel One"; PIC: "Disengage")

Components[]

Stellar system[]

This was a single star system. The primary Al Nair (the proper name for Alpha Gruis) was a B-type subgiant.

Planetary system[]

In this system, there was the inhabited planet Angel I, which was the homeworld to a female-dominated civilization. The planet was found in the system's habitable zone.

Stellar cartography[]

The Angel system was visible from Earth in the constellation Grus. This system was approximately 101 light years from Sol.

In 2259, the location of this system was seen on a stellar cartography chart seen on the USS Enterprise's ready room viewscreen. The system's symbol had a blue color, indicating that it was affiliated with the Federation. (SNW: "A Quality of Mercy")

On stardate 1292.4, the location of Angel was labeled in a chart used during a Section 31 Alpha Team briefing. (Star Trek: Section 31)

Background information[]

This star system was only mentioned in writing.

The location of this star system was seen on the bridge of the SS Eleos XII on what appears to be an updated chart from Star Trek: Star Charts. Dave Blass published pictures of the set on his website.

Information on this system was derived from the episodes, the reference works Star Trek: Star Charts and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library, and real-world sources. The reference works were used extensively in the creation of star charts seen in Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Star Trek: Prodigy, and Star Trek: Lower Decks. The real-world information added to the article was current as of 2025.

The primary of this system was classified as a B-class star by the Star Trek: Star Charts (p. 66) and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("Federation Historical Highlights, 2161-2385").

The current location of Angel system in the Beta Quadrant was based on the most recent star charts seen in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Section 31.
