Angela Rossini poster

The movie poster depicting Rossini

Angela Rossini was a woman whose name was advertised on a broadside seen on the side of the saloon in the Melkotian-created illusory version of Tombstone, Arizona.

The image depicted her strapped to the back of a rearing horse. The broadside advertised that Ms. Rossini had unprecedented success in this role. (TOS: "Spectre of the Gun")

The broadside was from the Paramount 1960 film Heller in Pink Tights. Sophia Loren played the role of Angela Rossini. Angela Rossini herself was based loosely on the real life actress Adah Isaacs Menken, who portrayed the character of Mazeppa in the melodrama of the same name. This was Menken's best known role, possibly attributed to the fact that at the climax of the play she seemingly appeared nude (wearing flesh colored tights) while tied to a running horse (which ran on a treadmill).
