From 1985 through 1987, O'Donnell had a recurring role on Night Court in which she played June Wheeler, the wife of Brent Spiner's Bob Wheeler; John Larroquette was a regular on this series; K Callan, Carlos LaCamara, and Kenneth Tobey were among those who appeared in O'Donnell and Spiner's episodes.

O'Donnell has also appeared with other Star Trek alumni on such shows as Highway to Heaven (with K Callan and Kenneth Tigar), Murder, She Wrote (with Gregg Henry, William Lucking, and Jeff Yagher), Party of Five (with Scott Grimes), Diagnosis: Murder (with Sally Kellerman), NYPD Blue (starring Gordon Clapp and Sharon Lawrence, with Bill Bolender, Michael Reilly Burke and William Lucking), Murder One (with Barbara Bosson, John Fleck, Gregory Itzin, and Richard Riehle), Dark Skies (starring Jeri Ryan), The X-Files (with Eve H. O'Donnell later starred in The Artist, Jersey Boys (2014), Transformers: Dark of the Moon and King of California.

O'Donnell is notable for being first cast as the mother of Amy Farrah Fowler in The Big Bang Theory. The role was recast when it became clear that Fowler's mother would play a larger role in the series, and Kathy Bates was cast in O'Donnell's place. [1]
