The Aqu'ticans were a sentient species native to the oceanic planet Aqu'tica. As of the late 24th century, they were a pre-industrial society that used spears. Members of this species resembled mermaids of Earth mythology, with a humanoid upper body and a fish-like lower body, allowing them to swim at high speed. They had translucent cyan skin, large black eyes, and long protrusions on their backs.
This species hunted the aquathawn that shared their homeworld, and had driven the animals close to extinction. In 2384, hunters of this species were pursuing a pregnant female aquathawn when she disappeared, puzzling them. The aquathawn had been beamed aboard the USS Protostar, whose crew had concealed their presence from the natives in consideration of the Prime Directive. (PRO: "Asylum")
