Captain Kirk and Doctor McCoy are placed under arrest

An arrest was a law enforcement term used to describe when an official agency, most often the police, seized a person on the premise that a crime had been committed. Various terms were used to describe an arrest, such as "being taken into custody", "arrested", and others.

In 2024, agents of the United States of America's Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested Teresa Ramirez and Cristóbal Rios. (PIC: "Assimilation") Not long after, FBI agents arrested Jean-Luc Picard and Guinan in her bar. (PIC: "Monsters")

In 2268, Arne Darvin was arrested for poisoning a shipment of grain on Deep Space Station K-7 and deported back to Qo'noS where he was discommendated. 105 years later in 2373, he stole the Orb of Time and went back to plant a tricobalt bomb on the station. He was arrested again by Odo and Worf.

Also that same year while Odo and Worf were arresting Darvin, Bashir and O'Brien accidentally got themselves arrested for taking part in a barfight and told Kirk "I don't know sir" to avoid being punished. (TOS: "The Trouble with Tribbles"; DS9: "Trials and Tribble-ations")

In 2270, the Dramens arrested Doctor Leonard McCoy for his supposed part in the death of hundreds of Dramians due to what later became recognized as the Dramia II plague. (TAS: "Albatross")

That same year, Captain Benjamin Maxwell was arrested for war crimes against the Federation and the Cardassian Union when he destroyed a science station and two Cardassian ships, a supply vessel and a warship, in the Cuellar system along the Cardassian Border. Captain Picard used Maxwell's former tactical officer Miles O'Brien to get Maxwell to surrender. Maxwell then surrendered his vessel, gave command to his first officer, and beamed himself over to the USS Enterprise-D where Picard put him in the brig for transport to Starbase 211 with the crew of the USS Phoenix where they would stand trial. (TNG: "The Wounded")

In 2369, Nog and a Markalian looter were arrested by Odo, Commander Benjamin Sisko, and Kira Nerys for looting. Sisko had Nog spend the night in the brig as a bargaining chip to Quark who was revealed by Kira to be the real thief. (DS9: "Emissary")

Later that same year, Tahna Los was arrested for attempting to detonate a bomb which he made out of bilitrium which he bought from the Duras sisters and an antimatter converter he stole from Cardassian Union with the intent of detonating it in the Bajoran wormhole. Kira saw through his treachery and beamed the bomb into space in the Gamma Quadrant where it harmlessly exploded. Los was returned to Deep Space 9 and put in the brig before being escorted back to Bajor and returned to prison. (DS9: "Past Prologue")

In 2370, Odo and Quark had Kor arrested for public intoxication when they found him drinking Breshtanti ale in the holosuites. Koloth made a failed attempt to bail Kor out and told Odo to keep him when he found out that Kor was still drunk. Dax eventually bailed Kor out of the brig. (DS9: "Blood Oath")

In 2370 of the mirror universe, Quark was arrested, interrogated, and eventually executed for aiding in the escape of Terrans from Terok Nor. (DS9: "Crossover")

In 2371, two officers of the Bajoran civil police arrived at the home of Shakaar Edon to arrest him for violating the Bajoran Provisional Government's order to return soil reclamators to them. Shakaar and Kira Nerys both subdued the officers and fled. (DS9: "Shakaar")

The term "arrested" could also refer to a period of stagnation. Such was the case when one referred to an arrested culture. James Kirk once told Jojo Krako that his behavior was arrested, to which Krako confused the term with the law enforcement version and stated "I ain't never been arrested in my whole life!" (TOS: "The Apple", "A Piece of the Action")
