"Arroz con leche" was a Spanish lullaby. (PIC: "Broken Pieces")
Lyrics[]
- Spanish
Arroz con leche se quiere casar
con una viudita de la capital,
que sepa tejer, que sepa bordar,
que ponga la aguja en su campanal
- English
Rice pudding wants to go to the city
to find a little widow to marry,
who knows how to knit, knows how to excel,
who works her needle like the chime of a bell
In Spanish, there is a play on words where the third and fourth lines each have a double meaning. It literally says, "who knows how to knit, who knows how to embroider/excel, who puts the needle in/steeple on her bell tower."
There are several versions of the lullaby. The one heard in the episode is the version that Santiago Cabrera learned from his mother. [1]
