Atreans were a humanoid species originating from the planet Atrea IV in the Alpha Quadrant.
Physiology[]
The Atreans' distinguishing feature was their large protruding ears, which set them apart from other humanoid species. While sharing a resemblance to Humans in terms of overall body structure, they were easily identified by these unique ear formations.(TNG: "Inheritance")
Society and Culture[]
The culture of the Atreans was deeply rooted in values of love, unity, and family bonds. The philosophy that "A child born from parents who love each other will have nothing but goodness in his heart." encapsulated their belief in the transformative power of love on individual character and societal well-being. This emphasis on familial connections fostered a strong sense of communal responsibility, contributing to a tightly knit and harmonious society. Marriage outside their culture does not seem to be an issue as Pran Tainer and Juliana Tainer were both happily married residing on the planet.(TNG: "Inheritance")
History[]
Atrea IV, their ancestral homeworld, faced a critical crisis in 2370 when its molten core began to solidify. This phenomenon resulted in the weakening of the planet's gravitational field and a significant rise in seismic activity. Dr. Juliana Tainer, a notable geologist and Atrean resident, estimated that the planet would become uninhabitable within thirteen months due to these changes. The plea for aid from the Atrean government led to the intervention of the USS Enterprise-D, whose crew collaborated with Atrean experts to develop a solution to this dire threat.
While investigating, Juliana was involved in an accident which revealed that she was, in fact, a Soong-type android constructed by Dr. Noonien Soong, Data's creator. She had been created in the image of then Soong's wife Juliana when she was injured in, and ultimately died from, the attack by the Crystalline Entity on the Omicron Theta colony in 2338. Pran was unaware of her true nature, as was Juliana.(TNG: "Inheritance")
Government[]
The governance of Atrea IV, overseen by the Atrean government, held the responsibility for ensuring the welfare of its populace and the stability of the planet. Specifics about the governing structure, leadership, and decision-making processes of the Atrean government remain relatively unexplored. (TNG: "Inheritance")
Technology[]
The Atreans demonstrated a level of technological advancement that facilitated interactions with external allies, such as the United Federation of Planets. During the molten core crisis, Atrean scientist Pran Tainer and the USS Enterprise-D crew worked together to devise innovative solutions. Their collaboration yielded the ground breaking "Ferro-plasmic infusion" technique, which involved injecting heat into Atrea IV's core to secure the planet's habitability for generations to come. This aptitude for technological innovation during times of crisis underscored the Atreans' resourcefulness and adaptability.(TNG: "Inheritance")
