An attack vessel, assault vessel, or assault ship was a type of warship, typically of the same type as a cruiser or destroyer. The term attack cruiser was applied specifically to the Klingon Vor'cha-class attack cruiser.
When telling Wainwright about a fictional Ferengi invasion of Earth in 1947, Nog claimed 300 Marauder-class attack cruisers, manned with Klingon shock troops, were in orbit of Earth. (DS9: "Little Green Men")
For a time in early 2375, the Dominion requested that the production of assault ships being constructed at the Monac shipyard be increased by fifteen percent in order to retake the Chin'toka system. This request did not come to fruition, however, as the shipyard and a large fleet of ships, consisting of Jem'Hadar battle cruisers and Galor-class warships under construction there, were destroyed by a solar fusion eruption caused by the Monac sun.
