"There's nothing quite like holding a baby to your breast, nursing"
– Audrid Dax (in Quark's body), 2371 ("Facets")

Audrid Dax was a female Trill in the 23rd century. She was joined and became the fourth host of the Dax symbiont. She was the head of the Trill Symbiosis Commission, and had at least two children, Neema and Gran. (DS9: "Facets", "Prodigal Daughter")

Dax was very proud of her position as the Commission head. She noted that her election, as well as the birth of her first child, were the happiest days of her life. (DS9: "Facets", "Prodigal Daughter")

Neema once spent two weeks in the hospital, ill with Rugalan fever. Audrid spent the entire time by her six-year-old daughter's side, and read all seventeen volumes of Down the River Light to her, even though she was unconscious. Fifteen years later, the two were not on speaking terms and would not see each other for another eight years. (DS9: "Nor the Battle to the Strong")

Audrid liked to walk in wooded areas due to their "shady glens, cool breezes, cold streams…" Like most of the other hosts, however, she had no musical talent. (DS9: "Shadows and Symbols", "Equilibrium")

Audrid died in 2284. (DS9: "Facets")

During Jadzia Dax's zhian'tara in 2371, Quark embodied Audrid's memories and personality. Jadzia neglected to inform him that he would be embodying a female host. (DS9: "Facets")

In 2375, Joran Dax told Ezri that he was a part of her "as much as Audrid, Torias – any of them". (DS9: "Field of Fire")

Audrid was played by Armin Shimerman during Jadzia Dax's zhian'tara.
According to the script for "Afterimage", her name was pronounced as "ODD-rid". [1]
Though Jadzia described Neema's illness being "hundreds of years ago", it could not have been much more than a century, since Dax's previous host, Emony met Leonard McCoy around 2245.

Apocrypha[]

In the Deep Space Nine relaunch series, particularly The Lives of Dax short story "Sins of the Mother", it was revealed that Audrid's husband was named Jayvin Vod.

Vod died on first contact with the parasitic beings seen in The Next Generation episode "Conspiracy". The parasite fused to the Vod symbiont and controlled Jayvin, necessitating its removal, but also killing both the host and the symbiont, a fact unknown to the doctors who performed the surgery. His death resulted in the rift between Audrid and her daughter Neema. Captain Christopher Pike was with them when this happened while serving as Fleet Captain.

In Unjoined, Neema eventually became joined and the Dax symbiont had a reunion with Neema's symbiont, Cyl, whose host was a general in the Trill military.
