Axanar was an inhabited planet and the homeworld for the Axanar, a warp-capable humanoid species.
In 2151, Starfleet first learned of this planet upon making first contact with the Axanar. (ENT: "Fight or Flight")
Prior to 2252, Captain Garth of Izar won a major victory at Axanar. A written account of this battle was read by James T. Kirk when he was a cadet at Starfleet Academy. Into the 2260s, this account was required reading at the Academy. (TOS: "Whom Gods Destroy")
Later, while still a cadet, Kirk was on a peace mission to this planet. After the successful completion of this mission, he was awarded the Palm Leaf of Axanar. (TOS: "Court Martial", "Whom Gods Destroy")
