Alternate reality
(split 2233)

The Ayt were a humanoid species known to visit Earth in the alternate reality. Ayt were humanoid and possessed feather-like structures on their heads. They also could connect their tongues together when they greeted each other. Instead of fingernails, they had claws.

In 2259, two Ayt met in the Port of San Francisco bar and connected their tongues. (Star Trek Into Darkness)

Background information[]

The name "Ayt" comes from production sources, such as Cinefex (No. 134, p. 82).

The Ayt in Star Trek Into Darkness were represented with full-head silicone prosthetics created by the film's makeup team, supervised by Head of Makeup Department David LeRoy Anderson. (Cinefex, No. 134, p. 82) Heather Langenkamp, who worked on the movie as a makeup artist and is Anderson's wife, stated, "Mark Garbarino applied those makeups and developed them in our shop." [1] The creatures' headdresses were fabricated from 100 hand-sculpted urethane leaves, designed to rustle as the aliens moved. (Cinefex, No. 134, p. 82) Langenkamp described these small pieces as having actually been crafted from acrylic. [2]

The Ayt's tongues were added using CGI done by Pixomondo. (Cinefex, No. 134, p. 82) Langenkamp characterized the Ayt as "a wonderful makeup" and went on to comment, "In the scene, you couldn’t really see how beautiful those makeups were, but those were my favorites by far." [3]

The makeup applianaces for the two Ayt were done by Mark Garbarino, Brian Sipe and Dave Snyder. The sculptures were designed by Garbarino, Glen Eisner and Jim Kagle. [4] [5]
