Abe Lincoln wins election

Election sign for Abe Lincoln, reading "Old Abe Lincoln came out of the wilderness"

A backwoodsman was a term to describe someone who was reared in a remote, uncivilized or backwoods area.

An election sign displaying support for Abraham Lincoln read: "Old Abe Lincoln came out of the wilderness." This image was viewed through the Guardian of Forever in 2267. (TOS: "The City on the Edge of Forever")

Later, in 2269, the Abraham Lincoln created on Excalbia proposed that he could slip into the enemy camp and free the Excalbian copy of Surak. When Captain James T. Kirk disagreed with Lincoln's idea, Lincoln responded that he himself, or at least the counterpart from which he was based on, was "something of a backwoodsman", and that he doubted that Kirk "could do what I was bred to do." (TOS: "The Savage Curtain")
