A hat with fish bait
Bait or a lure was a type of decoy used to attract and capture an animal, such as a fish. It could also refer to an object or tactic used to attract and trap a person.
In 2266, salt was put out as bait on all decks as well as engineering to attract the intruding M-113 creature onboard the USS Enterprise. (TOS: "The Man Trap")
In 2268, hemoplasm was initially used as bait for the dikironium cloud creature, but after the creature consumed it and continued onward, Captain James T. Kirk used himself instead. (TOS: "Obsession")
