Base (baseball)

A base was one of 4 "safe" locations (first, second, third, and home) in the game of baseball, designated by a plate.

In 2375, while reading a diagram of a baseball field aloud in the operations center, Kira Nerys explained, "The infield fly rule is invoked in instances where, with both first base and second base occupied, or with first, second and third base occupied." (DS9: "Take Me Out to the Holosuite")
