Nickname given to an animate, carnivorous plant speciment (a Weeper, kept aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 in the ship's botanical garden) by Yeoman Janice Rand in 2266. The plant seemed to purr in her presence, and became agitated when it sensed that a Salt Vampire had boarded the ship. Then-Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu, who studied the plant and was responsible for its keeping, insisted that Gertrude was a more appropriate name. ("The Man Trap" TOS)
