Nickname given to an animate, carnivorous plant specimen (a Weeper, kept aboard the USS Enterprise in the ship's botanical garden) by Yeoman Janice Rand in 2266. The plant seemed to purr in her presence, and became agitated when it sensed that a Salt Vampire had boarded the ship. Then-Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu, who studied the plant and was responsible for its keeping, insisted that Gertrude was a more appropriate name. (TOS: "The Man Trap")
