Berit Kyllo Francis (born 15 March 1961; age 63) appeared as a Starfleet captain in Star Trek Into Darkness. Hailing from Wayzata, Minnesota, Francis was invited to appear in this scene by J.J. Abrams and was first up to play an admiral but she didn't like the costume so she became a captain instead. [1] In the action scenes, she was doubled by stuntwoman Marie Fink.

Francis, who received a bachelor of science in nursing from St. Olaf College in 1983, is a volunteer for the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis where her six year old daughter was diagnosed with brain cancer. After Francis met J.J. Abrams at a fundraiser following the first movie, Star Trek, she was invited by Abrams to appear in his new film. On 23 May 2013 she also organized a fundraiser for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the St. Jude Red Carpet for Hope at the Show Place ICON Theater in St. Louis Park. [2]

Francis currently lives in Orono, Minnesota.
