Betelgeuse, also known as Alpha Orionis or 58 Orionis, was a star and its associated star system in the Beta Quadrant. This was a large bright M-type red supergiant which was the brightest star in its constellation and the tenth brightest star in Earth's night sky. It was approximately 724 light years from Sol.

It was one of the stars in the constellation Orion. It was the upper left star (shoulder) of Orion. (TNG: "Family")

In 2293, the location of this star was labeled in a star chart found on the navigation console of the USS Enterprise-B. (Star Trek Generations)

This star was only mentioned in writing.
In production sources for Star Trek: The Motion Picture, and as published in Star Trek: The Magazine Volume 2, Issue 9, Betelgeuse II, in the Betelgeuse star system, which was located within Federation space during the 23rd century, was the home to the Betelgeusians, an alien species that appeared in the aforementioned film and in Star Trek: Discovery.
Further information on this system could be had from the Star Trek: Star Charts ("United Federation of Planets I", "United Federation of Planets II"). The primary of this system was classified as a M-class star. The star lent its name to an inhabited planet in the system – Betelgeuse – which was by 2378 a member of the Federation.
