(written from a Production point of view)
A trade conference becomes a deadly battleground on Deep Space 9.
- From the book jacket
- Ambassadors from all over the Federation have assembled on Deep Space Nine for a conference that will determine the future of the planet Bajor. Keeping dozens of ambassadors happy is hard enough, but soon terrorists begin a bombing campaign on the station, and Commander Sisko's job becomes nearly impossible. Distracted by all of this, he's in no position to deal well with the arrival of a belligerent Cardassian commander demanding the return of Deep Space Nine to the Cardassian Empire, but he must rise to the occasion if his station and Bajor are to emerge from the crisis intact.
Berat, a Cardassian on Marak's ship, escapes onto Deep Space 9 through an emergency airlock. He is found by Nog, who promises protection from being returned to his ship if he fixes things for Nog. Berat is eventually discovered when Quark and O'Brien notice that the station is running smoothly. He is given amnesty and afterwards fixes the stations's fusion core. Gul Marak (who wants Berat back on his ship) is finally sent packing after it is discovered he planted an explosive on Deep Space 9's fusion core.
"Sisko, do I get the station, or do I get to blow it up?"
- - Gul Marak
- This is the only Star Trek novel written by Lois Tilton.
- Though the Cardassian gul in this novel is an original character – Marak – an image of Gul Macet is used on the cover as a stand-in for Marak.
