The Big Creek Manufacturing and Sales Co. was a business located in downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the mid-20th century.
In 1957, the Vulcan T'Mir sold to this company the rights to a new kind of hook-and-loop fasteners that would later be known as Velcro. She used the proceeds to help pay for Jack's education after hearing his mother Maggie bemoan her inability to do so alone. (ENT: "Carbon Creek")
The name of the company was a graphics tip of the hat to the "Big Creek Missile Agency" a 1950s high school rocket club in Coalwood, West Virginia, founded in the days after Sputnik 1 by future writer and NASA engineer Homer Hickam, Jr., who recounted his adventures in his memoir, a novel titled Rocket Boys, which became the feature film October Sky.
