Biting was the process of gripping onto, cutting, or injuring something or somebody with one's mouth and teeth. The ensuing wound left behind was known as a bite mark.

Klingons typically bit their partners as a mating ritual. (VOY: "Someone to Watch Over Me") When Seven of Nine was experiencing the thoughts of a Klingon male, she tried to flirt with B'Elanna Torres and bit her. (VOY: "Infinite Regress"). "I don't bite" was an Earth idiom meant to express that one was not dangerous. K'Ehleyr once said this idiom to Worf, then followed it up with, "Actually, that's wrong; I do bite." (TNG: "The Emissary")

When William T. Riker asked Paul Stubbs why the nanites Wesley Crusher created would attack the USS Enterprise, Stubbs replied, "Why does a mosquito bite your ear and who cares? The answer is simple: call an exterminator!". (TNG: "Evolution")

When Regina Barthalomew was seventeen years old, she went on a safari somewhere in Africa with her uncle. Her mother was concerned that Regina would get bitten by a tsetse fly. (TNG: "Ship in a Bottle")
