A Varuvian bomb was a highly destructive explosive device based on Varuvian ore. When detonated, it produced a burst of metreon particles.

In 2381, Captain Dorg of the Klingon Bird-of-Prey IKS Che'Ta' provided Rebner of the Pakled clumpship Pakled with a Varuvian bomb, for a plan to smuggle the bomb onto Earth. However, he was forced to give them another after they tested the first one on a large asteroid in System 7743.8. (LD: "The Spy Humongous", "wej Duj")

A Varuvian bomb was responsible for the destruction of Pakled Planet later that year, when one was planted in the capital of Big Strong City. Starfleet Command received evidence that Captain Carol Freeman collaborated with Klingon extremists in the act, and arrested her. A subsequent secret investigation found that the evidence had been fabricated at the behest of the Pakleds, who had bombed their own homeworld in a bid to make the Federation relocate them to a new resource-rich planet.
