Maurice picard-winemaking certificate of excellence-2305

An award given by the Terran Winemakers Association

In the script for the Star Trek: The Next Generation first season episode "We'll Always Have Paris", in Jean-Luc Picard's re-creation of the Café des Artistes aboard the USS Enterprise-D in 2364, the waiter Edouard poured a glass of bordeaux for Picard. The waiter described the wine as coming from a very passionate year. At the request of Picard, the waiter, as well, poured a glass of Bordeaux for Gabrielle.

According to background material created for Star Trek Generations, the 2305 vintage of Chateau Picard Bordeaux was awarded a "Certificate of Excellence in Winemaking" from the Terran Winemakers Association. This variety of Bordeaux had received the certificate Appellation Bordeaux contrôlée earlier. Confirmation of Chateau Picard producing Bordeaux in canon happened in the episode "The Star Gazer" when workers stacked boxes bearing the label "Grand Vin de Bordeaux".

The article containing this information was included in the Picard family album during the filming of Generations. However, the information is non-canon as the article was never seen on-screen.
