The Boston Red Sox were a professional baseball team on Earth during the 20th and 21st centuries, representing the city of Boston.

In 2372, Nog sent Jake Sisko a holosuite program featuring a game between the 1961 New York Yankees and the 1978 Boston Red Sox. Upon receiving it, Jake asked his father and Kasidy Yates if they wanted to watch it with him; Kasidy agreed and offered to "buy the hotdogs," however, Benjamin had to pass because he was due in Ops. Nevertheless, Benjamin predicted that the Yankees would bury the Sox, which they did, "7 to 3." (DS9: "For the Cause")

Background information[]

The 1978 Red Sox are considered one of the best teams in franchise history, winning 99 games. At the time that "For the Cause" was shot in 1996, this was the team's best record since the 1940s.

Ted Williams, Tris Speaker, and Bobby Thomson all played for the Red Sox for part of their careers.

On 22 September 2015, the Red Sox celebrated "Star Trek Night".

On 12 August 2016, in honor of the Star Trek franchise's 50th anniversary, William Shatner threw the first pitch in a game between the Red Sox and the Arizona Diamondbacks. A limited edition Captain Kirk Red Sox figurine was also distributed.
