Reproduction or procreation was the biological process by which offspring are produced. The known methods of biological reproduction were broadly grouped into two main types: sexual and asexual.

An important related concept was mating, the process of pairing off and then sexually reproducing. Humanoid species often spent significant time on mating rituals. (DS9: "The Forsaken")

Kirk, who overheard their flirtations, interjected, stating "I know you find each other fascinating, but we're not here to conduct a field experiment in Human biology." Later, when the Feeders of Vaal witnessed the affection between Chekov and Landon, they described the need for "replacements" to be unnecessary, and such acts to be "forbidden by Vaal." (TOS: "The Apple")

In 2267, James T. Kirk tried discussing Vulcan reproduction with Spock by saying that it happened to the birds and the bees. Spock countered that Vulcan reproduction was nothing like that and went on to describe pon farr, the Vulcan way of mating. (TOS: "Amok Time")

Almost fifty percent of the tribble's metabolism was geared for reproduction. (TOS: "The Trouble with Tribbles")

As a result of their reliance on cloning for reproduction, by the 24th century sexual reproduction was considered a bit repugnant on the Mariposa colony. (TNG: "Up The Long Ladder")

While trying to find out if a certain phenomena constituted a life form despite being inorganic, Doctor Beverly Crusher suggested that growth and development, aka reproduction, might be a good basis for any definition of life organic or inorganic. (TNG: "Home Soil")

In 2365, after the entity known as Nagilum learned of gender, Captain Jean-Luc Picard described as being the means by which species propagate. Nagilum then asked for a demonstration of how this was accomplished, but Doctor Katherine Pulaski replied that this was "not likely." (TNG: "Where Silence Has Lease")

The Tarchanne of Tarchannen III reproduced by planting a DNA strand in a living host that caused metamorphosis. (TNG: "Identity Crisis")
