Brian Brophy (born 20 March 1959; age 65) is the actor who portrayed Commander Bruce Maddox in the I AM ERROR second season episode "The Measure Of A Man" in 1989.

He had previously appeared in an episode of Max Headroom, starring fellow TNG guest star Matt Frewer in the title role. W. Morgan Sheppard and Concetta Tomei also starred in the series.

He played the central role of the blackmailer in Robert Altman's 1992 drama The Player. This film also starred Whoopi Goldberg and Dean Stockwell and also featured appearances by Rene Auberjonois, Paul Dooley, Louise Fletcher, Teri Garr, Sally Kellerman, Malcolm McDowell, Bert Remsen, and Ray Walston. Brophy was also one of the many Star Trek performers to appear in the acclaimed 1994 film The Shawshank Redemption. Among his co-stars in this film were Bob Gunton, William Sadler, Clancy Brown, Mark Rolston, Jude Ciccolella, Don McManus, and Bill Bolender. He also co-starred with William Sadler in 1993's Freaked, also featuring Derek McGrath, Lee Arenberg, and Don Stark.

His other film credits include: An Innocent Man (1989) starring F. Murray Abraham; Project: Metalbeast (1995) with stuntman Chuck Picerni, Jr. as well as Diaunté, Carole Davis, Brioni Farrell, John Marzilli and Musetta Vander; White Man's Burden (1995) with Bumper Robinson and Bert Remsen; City of Industry (1997) with Famke Janssen; Kiss the Girls (1997) starring Ashley Judd; and Armageddon (1998), in which he, Matt Malloy, and Andy Milder played NASA technicians. This latter film also featured Marshall R. Teague and Lawrence Tierney.

Brophy is currently the director of Theater Arts at the California Institute of Technology. [1]
