In the 21st century, the Lake Ontario Bridge was a megastructure crossing Lake Ontario in North America, with one of its endpoints in Toronto, Canada, on Earth. Despite budget overruns in its construction, it was regarded as a symbol of international cooperation and human progress. In 2259, an agent of the Department of Temporal Investigations appeared to La'an Noonien-Singh aboard the USS Enterprise. As he lay dying, he told her to "get to the bridge". She assumed he meant the bridge of the Enterprise. However, a device he gave her transported her and an alternate James T. Kirk to 21st-century Toronto. Soon after they arrived, the Lake Ontario Bridge was destroyed by photonic bombs planted by a Romulan temporal agent, Sera. On witnessing this, La'an and Kirk belatedly realized this was the "bridge" the agent wanted her to go to. (SNW: "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow")
