A building was a closed structure with walls and a roof. An aggregation of buildings closely connected together was known as a building complex.

Upon arriving on Terra Nova, the colonists of the SS Conestoga dismantled their ship and built their colony buildings with the parts. One of it was the town hall. (ENT: "Terra Nova")

The monastery at P'Jem was an ancient Vulcan building with several rooms as well as catacombs beneath it. (ENT: "The Andorian Incident")

In 2151, Enterprise NX-01 discovered a neutrino emission they detected eight meters under a building in a city on the Akaali homeworld. The building was later identified as a curio shop ran by the Malurian agent Garos and Lieutenant Malcolm Reed mentioned that the force field under this building wouldn't even be scratched by a torpedo. (ENT: "Civilization")

In 2266, on the planet Miri, James T. Kirk asked Miri about the locations of buildings where, in the before time, the Doctors worked. (TOS: "Miri")

In 2267, on the planet Beta III, the Hall of Audiences was located in the same building as the maximum security establishment and the absorption chambers. (TOS: "The Return of the Archons")

Later that year, on the planet Eminiar VII, Kirk requested a complete layout of the Division of Control building complex, so he could get to the war room, from government official Mea 3. (TOS: "A Taste of Armageddon")

In the 32nd century, the Mercantile, a marketplace jointly managed by Orions and Andorians, was located in a hovering building over Requiem, Hima. (DIS: "That Hope Is You, Part 1")
