Cait, also known as 15 Lyncis, was a binary star system in the Alpha Quadrant. The stars of this system were named 15 Lyncis A and 15 Lyncis B.

Stellar cartography[]

The Cait system was visible from Earth in the constellation Lynx. It was approximately 178 light years from Sol.

In 2259, the location of this system was labeled on a stellar cartography chart that was seen on the USS Enterprise's ready room viewscreen. This system's symbol had a blue color, indicating that it was affiliated with the Federation. (SNW: "Children of the Comet")

In 2324, the location of Cait was labeled in a chart used during a Section 31 Alpha Team briefing. (Star Trek: Section 31)

Background information[]

In the non-canonical sources, the planet Cait (β), which was the homeworld of the felinoid Caitians, was located in this system.

This planet originated in the biography of Lt. M'ress, which was originally published by Lincoln Enterprises in 1974, and described the planet as having an atmosphere, mass, and gravity all near Earth normal (Class M). There was only one other planet in the system, and it was uninhabited.

This information would later be incorporated into M'Ress' biography appearing in the Star Trek Concordance (1st edition, p. 197).

Information on this system was derived from the episodes, from the reference works Star Trek: Star Charts and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library, and from real world sources. The reference works were used extensively in the creation of star charts seen in Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Star Trek: Prodigy, and Star Trek: Lower Decks. The real-world information added to the article was current as of 2025.

Apocrypha[]

The Worlds of the Federation (p. 38) added that Cait was the second planet in the orbit of star 15 Lyncis, and was known natively as "Ferasa", which had two moons Rea and Sura. This source also stated that the 15 Lyncis system was the twelfth Federation member to ratify the Constitution of the United Federation of Planets and its component Articles Of Federation.
